Hip Hop pioneer MC Lyte joined us amid the release of brand new music after a lengthy break and shared with us what she has found helpful in managing her mental health both personally and professionally. LISTEN NOW:  MC Lyte is leaning on love, and a higher power, in her mental health journey “It's so interesting that now we have -- and have had before but never used it to the fullest as we do now -- the term ‘mental health,’" she explains. “Before it was just ‘OK, something's not right,’ or ‘I feel overwhelmed,’ or ‘I feel consumed…’ We use these other words, not really understanding that it all fit under the realm of mental health and what does it mean to feel at ease?” Which, in essence, is what we all truly want, MC Lyte continues, “To feel like everything is in a flow -- and life doesn't work that way. There's ebbs and flows, there's bumps in the roads, things of that nature. So for me, what I do first off is, I have a higher source, you know. God is who I look to in times that are good and bad.” “It's great to have this career,” she says. “I'm showing the highlight moments that this is great, but there are also other points where it's like, ‘OK, I'm unclear.’ The certainty that I'd love to have isn't there, and then I just got to lean on Him. Like, ‘God, you know what? I've done all that I can do to get it up to this point. You showed me the vision, now you make the provision because this is the only way that I know how.” “For me, it's about taking that time to breathe, to relax, to do something that's not work-related, whether it's reading or just going out in nature. I think it’s really important -- self-care -- for what it is, not only that I do as an occupation, but I'm sure all of us -- it can get stressful.” Host  DJ Scratch  from 94.7 The Block in NYC agrees adding, “I never used the words ‘mental health’ until the pandemic started and that was the first time I actually recognized it. Just me as being a Black man in America, we're taught to just deal with it quietly, don't shed a tear, just man up, deal with it. And during the pandemic… we never seen anything like that before. Our humanity was on trial and you just seen so many different things going on… like people needed Clorox, and Clorox was going for $75 a bottle. It was crazy. Everything that was going on with the presidency at the time… the police, everything that was going on at the time, that's when I really recognized what mental health really was and what I was dealing with.” Keeping open conversations around mental health “should be one of the priorities within our communities. We gather up for town halls about other things, I think this is just as important,” Lyte says. “Along with that, also being able to have younger people get together for an open, candid conversation between young men and young women because sometimes we're all speaking different languages, so to speak. I think even that could help us as a community.” Scratch, still in touch with many of the same friends from childhood says what they used to do when they were young was hold bi-annual “therapy” sessions having honest and open conversations about what they didn’t like about each other. “Nobody had an issue,” he says. “Sometimes people did, and we fix it. We were basically doing our own therapy sessions back then as kids… but what I did notice that growing up as an adult, everybody doesn't do that. Everybody holds stuff in, so I would seem like I'm aggressive when if I see somebody have a problem, but I'm like, ‘No, this is just how we used to do.’ You have to approach people differently when there's an issue with stuff like that.” “Most people are taught to hold what it is they feel,” Lyte agrees. “One, it doesn't matter… that's what people believe, like what they have to offer doesn't matter and then therefore they begin to believe what others have to offer doesn't matter. Discussing their new Netflix movie The Union , longtime friends Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg sat down with some of Audacy’s finest on-air talent including New York's NEW 102.7 and Philadelphia's The New 96.5's Mike Adam , nationally syndicated host Julia , KROQ’s Ally Johnson , Poet  from WPGC 95.5 in Washington DC, and Jayn from Audacy San Francisco and Portland. LISTEN NOW: Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry on 'The Union' No spoilers, but just for context — The Union follows Mike ( Mark Wahlberg ), a down-to-earth construction worker from Jersey, who is quickly thrust into the world of super spies and secret agents when his high school sweetheart Roxanne ( Halle Berry ) recruits him on a high-stakes US intelligence mission. Chatting all about the new project with its main stars, Ally wondered how their IRL friendship translated into a perfect pair of bickering exes, for their first time together on screen. “I think there was so much bickering and bantering between the two characters. It was like they really kind of picked up right where they left off,” Mark said. “That 25 year gap of them not being together… she knows how to pick and poke and get you going.” “That was the great thing about the relationship too,” he continued, “So much great chemistry there that I think… that's what makes it different and kind of elevates the movie to all these kind of other movies that you've seen.” “And my character stayed eternally mad that he didn't leave back in high school," Halle added. “She comes back with the chip on her shoulder. She's mad that he didn't do what he should have done, which you know, grow some balls and leave town and he didn't do it… and I think that was a fun through line to carry through our work.” Already looking towards the future, Mark noted, “We were talking about the sequel earlier, and she's still talking about how long she's gonna make Mike wait.” Treading lightly on the subject, Berry said, “We should be so lucky, but if it does well enough and we get asked to do one, I think we already have plans for it. We've thought about it.” Keeping his line of questioning on theme with the movie’s plot, Mike asked Mark and Halle, when it comes to keeping secrets, would either “be able to be a part of this agency” in real life? “I'm not good at keeping secrets," Mark admitted. “But hopefully if people are smart enough to recognize what your strong suits… they’ll put you in that department. As opposed to having to hold some sort of valuable information that is likely gonna get leaked to whoever's around and I'm kind of bored and want to talk about it with.” Halle on the other hand is “a vault,” noting, “I can keep a secret for a very long time.” Talking about their comedic timing and chemistry in the film, Jayn asked if any of the scenes or lines were improvised and if they had to start some takes over because one or both would break. “No,” Halle revealed, “when they were funny, we kept them. And if we laugh, well, that's what our characters would do. I don't think we ruined too many that way.” Looking over at Mark, Halle continued, “you had a lot of good one liners.” Adding, “he was always saving the best line for the end. He always would end the scenes with like the best little buttons.” Apparently Mark had the same sentiments, but for Halle, sharing, “I thought when I said ‘I'm like the Jersey James Bond,’ and then she comes back with, ‘yeah, double-o go f*** you.’ That's stealing the scene.” Pointing out that “one of the dopest things about this movie is this 25 year gap, where you were waiting for this second chance with your sweetheart," Poet asked the co-stars to share about a “time in your life that you're grateful that you got a second chance.” “Well, something that did just dawn on me. With most people, they probably don't want to see somebody after 25 years,” Mark said. Then pointing to Halle to jokingly note how that actually wouldn’t be a concern for her, “you got, no worries right here… nothing’s changed.” “Not true, not true,” Berry countered, before sharing a story about Spike Lee . “I auditioned to play his wife in Jungle Fever, and he gave me another chance to go in the bathroom. I told him 'I can be the crack ho, really, that’s what you should let me audition for.' He goes, ‘no, you're my wife.’ I said, ‘no, I'm the ho let me go wash my makeup off, I’ll show you a different version of me.’ And he gave me a second chance at auditioning for his film. And that ended up being my first movie role, but because he gave me a second chance to do what I really wanted to do.” Sharing that “one of my favorite little pieces of this movie was the end credits of the throwback photos of you guys,” Julia wondered if despite having known each other for a while, was there anything new that they learned about the other while filming together. “She's a mom first,” Mark shared about Halle, “the kids are the top priority. So to see that she can balance all of those things and this career and being Halle Berry, but becoming Roxanne and doing all these things. And I know it's not easy, but she makes it look easy.” Following up with the same high regards for her co-star, Halle expressed, “The same for you… Our first AD would say rolling — if one of his kids called in that moment, we'd be on a roll, waiting to go, and he's like, ‘hello? say hi to everybody.’ Like he's relentless at that, he is very available to his children. He was talking to them all the time, all hours of the night.” Jokingly pointing out how consuming food is seldom seen in these types of fast pace movies, Jayn asked Halle and Mark to share their go-to snack when filming action movies. Which Mike followed up, by asking the parent first actors if the types of roles they take on has changed since having children. About a week ago, the Fugees and Lauryn Hill announced they’d once again be canceling the U.S. leg of their co-headlining tour. And now, the drama-filled details behind the decision are starting to surface. Listen to  The 90s Radio  and more on the free Audacy app Exhibit A - In his new track, “Bar Mitzfa,” not officially released, but somehow obtained by TMZ , Pras takes aim Hill with the following lyrics — “Don’t blame me, blame her, she made the mess / Not another f***ing penny is what I told ‘Clef.” Following the tour cancelation announcement, Hill took to social, to disperse the blame to the media for creating a negative narrative about her and claiming that she loves performing for her fans. “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” she wrote. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.” She continued, “Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love of music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.” Also going on to note that the U.K. and Europe dates of the tour are still on. Not limiting his wrath to just lyrics, Pras also seemed to take shots at Hill and her statement, taking to his IG Story. Exhibit B — “Nobody will remember click bait beefs, your salary, how many Gucci bags you owned, bogus excuses,” Pras wrote above a picture of himself performing to a massive crowd. Continuing underneath the image, “People will remember: how you made them feel, if you kept your word, if they could count on you, if you come on time!!” After publicly airing out his thoughts, Pras followed up with another story, which we’ll refer to as Exhibit C — Using a Golden Girls meme to relay his current dilemma. It read, “Me debating if I’m going to let it slide or start something,” above a picture of Bea Arthur ’s Dorothy Zbornak looking rather impatient. A contemplation which he went on to answer with a “100%” sticker below. It’s no secret that Ms. Hill’s live show reputation is less than stellar, due to the many times she’s been late or simply not shown up. So whether or not she is behind the latest tour cancelation, that perception of her is already out there and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Plus, with the addition of Pras and his pointed lyrics, remarks, and meme usage, it seems we’re definitely in store for some drama with a capital D.

After performing with Snoop Dogg during the LA28 Olympic Games Handover Celebration, closing out the Paris Olympics, Dr. Dre revealed he’s “deadass serious” about competing in the 2028 games, taking place in Los Angeles, California. Listen to Hip-Hop Made: West Coast and more on the free Audacy app During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dre revealed his thoughts about representing Team USA and “trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028.” As for his sport of choice… that would be Archery. "I actually started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup. I have it set up in my backyard and I heard qualifying for the Olympics is 77 feet,” Dre expressed, adding, “I practice at 90. Wouldn't that be interesting?” Interesting indeed, actually kismet, for the West Coast legend who grew up in Compton. While his legacy is cemented as part of West Coast Hip-Hop history, it seems Dre wants to add athletic accolades to his collection. And doing so in LA, would make it that much sweeter. In other Dr. Dre, Olympics related news, during the same interview, the rapper/producer/mogul voiced his thoughts about this year’s breakdancing competition. With 2024 being the first year that breakdancing was featured in the Olympics, most of the dazzling athleticism of b-boys and b-girls from around the world were on full display. However, the sport was overshadowed by the bizarre display from Australia’s Rachael “Raygun” Gunn . “I did not like that. It’s so many great breakdancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that,” Dre said, joining the general consensus that has flooded the internet. Janet Jackson already comes from one of the most famous families, and it’s no secret that talent runs in the fam. But what you might not know, is that it also extends to a couple A-list cousins, as she recently revealed to BBC Radio 2. Listen to  Janet Jackson Radio  and more on the free Audacy app During her conversation with Scott Mills on the  Zoe Ball Breakfast Show , Janet revealed revealed that in addition to being the little sister of late Pop superstar Michael Jackson , as well as Marlon , LaToya , Randy , Jermaine , Rebbie , Jackie , Tito and Brandon (who died shortly after birth in 1957), she’s also related to another legendary singer, or two, plus an iconic actor. “Are you related to Stevie?” Mills asked Jackson referring to Motown legend Stevie Wonder before cueing up Wonder’s “Do I Do” as for added effect. “He’s our cousin,” Jackson confirmed. “Not a lot of people know that. He’s our cousin on our mother’s side.” For Janet, having famous family members is nothing new, considering her brothers had already formed The Jackson 5 before she was even born. Growing up in the limelight, Janet eventually becoming a household name of her own. So after dropping the mind-blowing tidbit as if it were nbd, Jackson casually added Tracy Chapman is also a cousin, and “so is Samuel L. Jackson ,” making sure to note that despite their shared last name “he’s not my brother.” As for how direct the lineage is for the “Fast Car” singer and  Avengers  actor, it’s unclear as Jackson did not elaborate. The Paris Summer Olympics may be over, but the drama is still unfolding as Olympic gymnast, Jordan Chiles , has been ordered to return her bronze medal after challenge discrepancy over scoring. This week, Flavor Flav went on record offering Chiles her very own, custom bronze clock to resemble the ones famously worn by the rapper. “USA gonna Fight The Powers that be,,, but in the meantime between time I gots yo back [Jordan Chiles]” he wrote next to a photo of the clock on Instagram “Hit me up.” “Everybody wants to feel like like they got their back covered like somebody has their back, you know what I'm saying? And when they feel that it makes them feel more powerful, it makes them feel more better,”  Flav explained  during a recent panel during the 2024 Olympics. Having the backs of Team USA is exactly what he’s done throughout the summer games sponsoring the Women’s Water Polo Team and also coming to the rescue of a track & field star, Veronica Fraley , who needed help paying rent. His support went far beyond his generous financial contributions though. He could also be seen throughout Paris supporting Americans from the stands in various different events. After 16 days of running and jumping, flipping and swimming, the 2024 Paris Olympics have come to a close and a few of music’s biggest stars helped bid them adieu. Listen to  Snoop Dogg Radio ,  Billie Eilish Radio  and  Red Hot Chili Peppers Radio  on the free Audacy app  Billie Eilish , Snoop Dogg , Red Hot Chili Peppers and H.E.R. were all part of the Paris closing ceremonies which marked the hand-off of the Olympic torch to Los Angeles, where the next summer games will be hosted in 2028. H.E.R. was in Paris to help represent Los Angeles and the United States accepting the Olympic torch as she sang the Nation Anthem. Immediately following, actor Tom Cruise dramatically accepted the Olympic flag and via pre-taped footage with a soundtrack by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, was shown cruising through the streets of Paris with it before boarding a plane and skydiving to the infamous Hollywood sign. Some of music’s biggest stars were there to welcome the flag with performances from Will Rogers Beach. They included Red Hot Chili Peppers who played their track “Can’t Stop,” and Billie Eilish, who sang “Birds of a Feather” alongside her brother and musical collaborator FINNEAS . Also in attendance was Snoop Dogg, who has been no stranger to the Olympics this summer as he’s been an official NBC correspondent who has helped with primetime coverage. Snoop performed his hits “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin & Juice,” along with a special guest appearance by Dr . Dre . "This is the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA,” said LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman . “We are thrilled to feature the very best of LA with local artists and are grateful to Billie, H.E.R., the Chili Peppers and Snoop for their collaboration... that [gave] fans a taste of what’s to come in 2028.” The LA28 Olympics are scheduled to take place July 14-July 30.

The 2024 Olympic Games will come to a close this weekend and some of music’s biggest stars will appear during closing ceremonies to help bid adieu to the Summer Games. Actor, Tom Cruise , is expected to pitch to the LA performances in style with a motorcycle stunt in front of the Paris crowd, which will then toss to pre-recorded footage of him parachuting to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, where the next summer Olympics is scheduled to take place in 2028. To further excite the world for the next summer Olympics taking place July 14 to July 30, 2028, Los Angles Mayor Karen Bass is expected to formally accept the Olympic Torch in Paris and make sure it arrives to LA safely. Just days before it was set to kick off, Lauryn Hill  has quietly canceled the U.S. leg of her co-headlining tour with the  Fugees . Listen to  The 90s Radio  and more on the free Audacy app After initially extending the tour, celebrating the 25th anniversary of her iconic album  The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which was scheduled to start on Friday, August 9 in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, August 7 ticket-holders received notification that the tour had been canceled and refunds would be issued. It's a place hopeful Hill concertgoers have found themselves before, when she previously called off her 2023 tour due to “serious vocal strain.” And same for Fugees fans in 2021, when their reunion tour was postponed and finally canceled in 2022 due to COVID concerns. "Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour," Hill shared in a lengthy statement on Instagram. "The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal."
