  • Wu-Tang is for the cultured: RZA releases his first classical album

Doubling down on last year's 30th anniversary Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) symphonic celebrations, Wu-Tang Clan 's RZA  just released his very first classical album, A Ballet Through Mud . Listen to Hip Hop Made: NYC and more on the free Audacy app That's right, the musical mastermind behind Wu-Tang Clan 's groundbreaking discography, and many of the members' solo releases, has now relinquished the beats and just dropped his very first classical album. But, before you get all... Photo credit Ethan Miller/Getty Images ...here's a bit of fair warning: RZA , along with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christopher Dragon , has offered a recorded version of the ballet he composed and performed live at the Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver, CO in early 2023 along with his symphonic iteration of 36 Chambers of Shaolin . "I hope this inspires people to take a chance in classical, to take a chance with instruments, and to take a chance to be outside the box," RZA says in the album's trailer. "I have been composing my whole life, although I didn't know initially that was what I was doing," he explains in a new interview with BBC Music Magazine . "The inspiration for 'A Ballet Through Mud' comes from my earliest creative output as a teenager, but its themes are universal – love, exploration, and adventure," he adds. "I hope people use it to score their own lives, to transform a drive to the grocery store or sharing a meal with loved ones into something magical, to be inspired and let their imaginations take them into a different chamber, if only for a moment." RZA is certainly not the only member of the group who has branched out into non-Wu-related ventures. GZA (the Genius) has been diving deep into quantum physics , Method Man recently put his full focus into his acting career , Ghostface is slinging Killah Coffee now, and, of course, Chef Raekwon has had his Licataa wine available for years as well.

  • Mariah Carey says 'my heart is broken' after mother and sister tragically died the same day

Mariah Carey  has suffered a tremendous loss after two deaths in her immediate family took place in the past few days. The singer’s mother, Patricia, and sister Alison, both passed on the same day. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” the singer has said in a statement addressing the heartbreaking news. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.” Neither the date of Patricia and Alison’s death nor the cause of death was given. Writing about the complex and complicated relationship she’s had with her family, in her 2020 memoir,  The Meaning of Mariah Carey . Mariah detailed how her therapist at one point in time recommended she redefine her relationship with her family for her own “sanity and peace of mind.” Carey recalled, “My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister … I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasized about.” The singer also opened up about her difficult relationship with her mother, describing their relationship as "a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.” Noting "A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.” Nonetheless, she dedicated her memoir, at least in part, to her mother, writing, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could… I will love you the best I can, always.”
