After serving as the unofficial hype man of the 2024 Olympic women’s water polo team, Olympic Games enthusiast Flavor Flav has his eyes set on carrying the torch during the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Talking about his unforgettable summer at the Paris Olympics during his appearance on the Politickin’ podcast, Flav told hosts California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, former NFL star Marshawn Lynch, and agent Doug Hendrickson, all about his mission to be the torchbearer at the next games, four years from now.
When asked what part of the experience surprised him the most, the Public Enemy vet revealed that “energy wise” being there was a “dream come true.” Noting, “It’s like, wow, I’m finally here, and I’m finally getting to really experience and see this in real life with my own eyes, and being in that moment.” Adding, “I ain’t going to lie, man, the Super Bowl — it’s exciting going to the Super Bowl, but this was a little bit more exciting.”
It was at another point of the conversation, later on in the interview when Flav revealed that he’s already put in his bid to be one of the 2028 torchbearers. “Guess what? I got a feeling I might be one of them,” he said. “I put my bid in already. I said, ‘If Snoop can carry the torch in Paris — come on, man — Flav can carry that bad boy in L.A.,’ and Snoop did a fantastic job, man.”
For those who might not have stayed on top of the goings on at the 2024 Summer Olympics, in addition to being part of NBC’s Olympic coverage team at this year’s games, Snoop Dogg also acted as a torchbearer to help usher in the games’ opening ceremony in Paris.
Flav continued to praise Snoop, for both doing a good job and securing the bag, saying, “He rocked. Even though they did pay him a half-a-million a day, Snoop got a nice payday out there, besides the payday, he did a good job and I know that man had a lot of fun out there. Mad big ups to you, Snoop.”
Of course, Flav’s aspirations began way ahead of setting foot in Paris, or seeing Snoop’s roll at the games. Telling Rolling Stone, prior to hopping on a flight to Paris to support the Olympic women’s water polo team, “If everything goes well, I’ll be doing this for the next five years into the next Olympics. Adding, “I might even do it for another five.”
