Donald Glover postpones Childish Gambino tour to 'focus on my physical health'

Taking to socials with the unfortunate news, Donald Glover let his fans and followers know that he’s pressing pause on the remainder of his Childish Gambino New World Tour in order to focus on his health.

“Hey everyone,” Glover began, “Unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. Hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.”

Glover, whose North American tour has a month of dates remaining, didn’t elaborate any further on his reasons for the postponement. The tour’s next scheduled date would have been on Tuesday, September 10 in Austin, TX, then it was off to the West Coast and Midwest before a final date in Chicago on October 3.

Donald is also scheduled to take his tour overseas in November, with shows across Europe, New Zealand, and Australia through February 2025. So, if that leg still occurs as planned, it seems likely the postponed U.S. dates will be rescheduled for next year.

Donald’s New World Tour is one of the “final” few offerings to come from his Childish Gambino persona, along with his latest album, Bando Stone and the New World, a forthcoming film of the same name, and a re-release of his leaked 3.15.2020 album reworked and retitled ATAVISTA.

His most elaborate production to date, Donald’s New World Tour employs complex technology, lighting, lasers, and more. "Designed by Tobias Rylander (Beyoncé, The 1975), the technology for the show is truly next-level," Variety wrote of the show's production, noting that the event in “Connecticut over the weekend was canceled because the venue apparently couldn’t present it properly.”

Going on to detail the layout, the outlet explained, “There were two stages and two tall vertical lighting towers on either end of the arena, as well as big cube-shaped video screens on either side of the stage and a long walkway leading out into the audience; there was also a more conventional horizontal lighting rig and banks of laser lights that could pierce the air individually or shoot from one tower to another, forming perpendicular curtains of light. Most dazzling of all, above the end of the walkway was a sort of giant crystal cloud comprised of a couple hundred icicle-like rods that lit up in synchronized sequences — and even featured a giant mosaic-like video of Glover’s face — and rose and descended throughout the show. The audience was warned, by both a voiceover and later, Glover himself, not to look directly into the lasers or ultra-bright lights.”
