In a recent interview with GQ, the icon shared she’s held back on creating music videos at this stage in her career and will continue to do so for the forseeable future to keep “focus on the voice.”

“I thought it was important that during a time where all we see is visuals, that the world can focus on the voice,” Bey told the outlet. “The music is so rich in history and instrumentation. It takes months to digest, research, and understand. The music needed space to breathe on its own.”

The music she’s referring to are the tracks included is her latest releases —  RENAISSANCE and COWBOY CARTER — both part of her Renaissance series. None of the included tracks have received the music video treatment.

“Sometimes a visual can be a distraction from the quality of the voice and the music,” she continued. “The years of hard work and detail put into an album that takes over four years! The music is enough. The fans from all over the world became the visual. We all got the visual on tour.”

While she may be taking a break from the visuals for now, she’ll still be known more some of the most iconic videos of this generation including “Single Ladies,” “Hold Up,” and “Formation.” Watch all three below.
