SZA inspired by Chappell Roan, but also ready to take a break from the stage

Following her headlining performance at Lollapalooza Day 2, SZA took a moment to spotlight the Chicago festival’s MVP of 2024 — Chappell Roan.

“She makes me wanna keep making new music n art forever,” SZA wrote over Chappell’s post of the Midwest Princess performing “Femininomenon.” Perfectly on brand for the rising popstar who garnered one of the biggest, if not the biggest crowd the annual festival has ever seen… and doing so not even being a headliner.

Despite the inspiration, just one day later, after closing out her headlining set at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival on August 5, SZA revealed she’d be taking a break from stage life for the foreseeable future. Taking to X to make the announcement, SZA wrote,“Yesterday was my last show for a while. Finally bout to get my life together thank u God.”

The unexpected, yet also unsurprising news comes after SZA’s extensive run of 63 SOS Tour dates all across the globe starting in early 2023, followed by a packed summer festival schedule.

That being said, while SZA did admit she’d be stepping back from the stage, new music is still headed our way, as SZA debuted an unreleased track titled “Cry Baby,” during her Lollapalooza set, telling the crowd, “It’s not out, but it will be.”

Not to mention she’s been teasing her new project Lana, for a hot minute now. An album that started out as being the deluxe edition of SOS with a few unreleased tracks, but after a few leaks, is now going to be a new stand alone album with “music no one’s ever heard before.”
